~Nora~
1999 - 2007
Nora, a beautiful Tortie, was one of the special needs kitties at Melrose Humane Society. We began sponsoring her in 2001, in memory of our brother Midnight. MHS has been successful in finding homes for many of their shelter kitties. We hoped and purred that a very special person would fall in love with Nora and adopt her. This is a letter we received from MHS in April 2001:
Dear M/M Crowley & Cats,Enclosed is a picture of Nora, your "special sponsor cat." Nora is about 1½ years old. She was a feral four month old kitten caught with her two sisters and brought to us. The picture really doesn't show her beautiful markings. Her siblings became tame enough to be adopted, but Nora remains very, very timid. She gets along fine with our other cats. We will continue to work with her with the hope that some day she can be adopted.
Thank you very much.
In December 2001, MHS reported that "Nora is doing well and is still with us. She is beginning to overcome her shyness. She's actually become quite fresh!"
Shibui received this letter in January 2003:
Dear Shibui,We truly appreciate your continued support and generosity. Your donation in memory of CLAW members at Rainbow Bridge will help many animals in need. Nora loves the hugs and purrs! Wishing you and all (feline and human) the best for the New Year!

Our friend Lloyd made this lovely fan for Nora during CLAW's Sizzling Summer Flea Market. In memory of his brother, M&M, Lloyd sponsored a kitty named Sophie at MHS. After Lloyd went to Rainbow Bridge, his family adopted Sophie and two other MHS shelter kitties, McGee and Shirley. You may visit them in their new home by clicking here.
After Shibui went to Rainbow bridge, we continued our sponsorship of Nora...dedicated in memory of Shibui as well as Midnight. In 2005, we were happy to learn that Nora had been placed in a foster home and was receiving a lot of love and attention from her new "family." Her special person, Cheryl C., sent us a lovely framed photograph of Nora and her "best friend," Tipper.
Our hearts were filled with sadness, when we received a message from Cheryl, informing us that Nora passed away on March 3, 2007. In the lovely card, Cheryl wrote:
Nora lived a very good life ... and it has been difficult. I do get attached to our furry friends and Miss Nora was a character. I lived with her for the past seven years and was with her 'til the end. It was difficult when her feline antics were no longer around. I know she is still happy. We all appreciated what the Crowleys have done including Nora. It warms my heart when people like yourself come into a kitty's little world. It is what keeps us going.Nora did bond with a blind kitty that we have; her name is Missy. She and Tipper would play with Nora.
Thank you for everything ... and for loving Nora as we did.
Sincerely,
Cheryl C, MHS
