My name is Shibui and this is my CLAW Shelter Support Page! The purpose of CLAW is to serve. As a way of putting this into practice, members of CLAW voted to "adopt" the Melrose Humane Society. MHS is a no-kill shelter for all animals in Massachusetts.

There are many ways that individuals can help MHS continue to provide their services. Persons may send contributions, sponsor special needs animals, or become members of MHS. Please visit their web site to learn more about their programs and how you can help.
Although none of us ever lived in a shelter, my siblings and I relate to the needs of homeless animals. In memory of our brother Midnight, we are sponsoring an MHS special needs kitty named "Nora." If you visit Nora's Page, we will show you her picture and tell you more about her.
Our organization also helps Good Mews, a shelter just for cats. It is located in Marietta, Georgia, a suburb of Atlanta.
Some of the ways that individuals can help Good Mews include making financial donations, volunteering, donating supplies, and participating in their "Kitty Keeper" program. When you visit their web site, please check out their "Happy Endings" which feature stories of successful adoptions.
We encourage our friends to support their local shelters, humane societies, and rescue agencies, too. The following organizations are located in Texas:
Furever Friends is a group of experienced volunteers who provide foster homes for animals in the Fort Worth/Mid-Cities area of Texas. They work with adoption sites to ensure that permanent homes will be found for all adoptable animals.
Humane Society of North Texas. This organization was founded in the 1890's and incorporated in 1905. It's mission is:
To act as an advocate on behalf of all animals and to ensure their legal, moral, and ethical consideration and protection.
To provide for the well-being of animals who are abandoned, injured, mistreated, or otherwise in need.
To promote an appreciation of animals, and to instill respect for all living things. HSNT is not affiliated with any other society. It depends on donations to provide care for over 400 animals each day and to carry out its educational programs. Their web site contains a "wish list" of items that are needed. It states: "Most of all we need animal lovers willing to adopt older dogs and cats!"

The theme of the Older Cats Society for March 2001 was "Shelter Kitties." Among other activities, members contributed to a chain story about a homeless cat. Please read Scraggles, a cat tale that will warm your heart.
One of our members, Gigi, interviewed two kitties from Good Mews and MHS, Tabbi and Revere. Please go here to meet these kitties and learn more about how OCS supports the shelter programs.
Other Guilds, as well as CLAW members, participated in CLAW's Shelter Support Fair. Visitors were invited to visit their tents and learn more about the programs and services that are available. I hope you had an opportunity to attend it, before it closed.
