Shibui's Sanctuary

My silhouette!I am the only Siamese cat on the Triple C Ranch. I will not burden you with the history of my life before I discovered my own true home. It is a sad story and I'd rather not discuss it. Adjusting to being homeless is very difficult when you're an older cat. I was unaccustomed to fending for myself, even though my hunting skills are very keen. One afternoon, I was walking down a dusty, gravel road when I saw a house on a hill. It was some distance from the road, but I decided to go there. I crawled through the barbed wire fence and crept slowly up the hill.

I was almost to the yard when a large dog suddenly appeared. She began barking as she ran toward me. I can run as fast as a cheetah when it's necessary - and it was. I climbed to the top of a large live oak tree and hid myself in the leaves. The dog continued to bark, until a woman came out of the house and told her to stop. Then she put a leash on the dog and took her away.

My silhouette!Soon, the woman brought a bowl of food and put it under the tree. She began urging me to come down and eat. I was so hungry that I couldn't resist. This was the beginning of my life with Pat, George, the Crowley Cats and our dog, Sandy. I do my share of work on the ranch, although I am only obligated to supervise. My schedule is flexible and I prefer to vary it according to the seasons. In the summer I supervise the gathering of fruits and vegetables from the orchard and garden.

My late brother Midnight often said that I reminded him of "The Retired Cat," by William Cowper:

Sometimes ascending, debonair
An apple-tree or lofty pear,
Lodg'd with convenience in the fork
She watched the gardener at his work.

  from The Quintessential Cat

During the time I have lived here, many changes have taken place. When I arrived in June of 1991, there were four other cats in residence: Ditcher, Dobbin, Midnight, and Rascal. Four years later, Scrappy entered our lives. Now, four of my brothers and our dog, Sandy, have gone to Rainbow Bridge.

Currently, I share my home with four cats and two humans. Only Frenchie and Clancy give me the proper respect that should be accorded to a cat descended from royalty. On one of my birthdays, for example, Dobbin and Midnight presented me with a crown; however, Dobbin still refuses to bow to me. She and I both celebrated our 17th birthdays in 2003.

My crown!

Bogey joined our family in March, 1998. Sometimes, I still think she is attempting to put a hex on me! When she stares at me with her huge golden eyes, she makes me feel very uncomfortable. I realize that she needed a home, just as I once did, but I don't believe her plight was as desperate as mine was. If only she could be more like Frenchie, a young male cat who entered our lives during the 1999 Easter holidays. He is so sweet and considerate. If he was solid white, he would be her exact opposite in every way!

The front bedroom is my favorite room in the house.

My Flag! For over four years, my family pariticpated in a forum that my little brother Scrappy originally hosted. Our friends who went "Roaming with Scrappy" loved to party! Every Friday 13th, we planned a special event. In 1997, Scrappy's friends had their first Friday the 13th picnic. My friend Cleo made flags for us to carry in the parade. She told us we could keep them and display them on our pages. Mine is unique, because it is the only flag in the parade that had a star!

In 1998, Cleo organized a spectacular party. It also began with a parade. I was thrilled when Cleo asked me to lead it. The Goodyear blimp transported our guests to the field where our drill team performed. Even I cannot describe how exciting it was!

You are invited to enter my Inner Sanctum, where I keep my special awards and collections. If you find my hidden key, please let me know. Whatever you do, don't tell Bogey where it is!

These are some of my favorite Siamese Cat Pages:

  • Frosty - a really cool cat, described by his humans as "quite a mariner."
  • Nikki and Nichie - a pair of brilliant, young Lynx Points.
  • Pergamond - a literary cat whose wit and wisdom will be remembered. Pergamond ruled Cat Street until she went to the Rainbow Bridge in the summer of 1999.
  • Ping and Pong - These Siamese boys are as sweet as their sister, Sugar!
  • Mr. Sass A. Frass [5/13/91 - 6/29/98] - my teacher and friend.
  • Sassy - a self-described "Spoiled Kitty."
  • The Siamese Cat Club Chorale - Organized by the legendary Ceilidh Flurrydance of Bitterroot Manor. Ceilidh departed for the Rainbow Bridge on 1/9/99. May her memory and her songs live forever in the hearts of her family and friends.
  • Whiskers - A Siamese cat with an interesting tale.

Note: Some of Shibui's favorite Siamese web sites are apparently no longer online. We remove invalid links, but have left the kitty's names in hopes that someday their pages will be available again.

CLAWI was a member of CLAW, an elite organization for cats, from May, 1998 until the clubhouse closed on August 31, 2000. On November 4, 2000, CLAW reopened with a new mission which emphasizes serving rather than ruling. CLAW will continue to present plays and other events in the Theater and offer a variety of resources to the public. Please visit my CLAW Page to learn more about this wonderful organization and the activities that I participate in. It is linked to my first CLAW page, now a tribute to my teachers, leaders, and friends in the original CLAW.

I was once very lucky to have a winning number in a CLAW raffle. My prize was a personalized comic strip by Jinx the Cat, a very talented cartoonist. "Glare Scare" is based on my personal experiences Bogey. I think Jinx did a remarkable job of capturing the essence of the situation!

Tucker B. Smith and I met in the Older Cats Society at CLAW. We discovered that we had many interests in common and our friendship gradually blossomed into love. Even so, Tucker swept me off my paws when he sent me this romantic proposal! How could I have said anything but, "Yes!"? To celebrate Tucker's birthday on January 1, 2000, I prepared a surprise for him. Little did I know that Bogey had a camera hidden in the room! Our wedwink took place on February 14, 2001. You may share our special day and attend the reception by going to our Wedwink Entrance. Each year, we celebrated our anniversary at our retreat in Catuary. Our 2nd Anniversary was a very special and happy occassion. We renewed our vows and reminisced about all the happiness we've shared. We did not suspect that this would be the last Valentine's Day that we would be together. Sadly, Tucker left for Rainbow Bridge on April 4, 2003. He was my one true love and he shall live in my heart forever.

Tucker was a very talented cat and his family all have artistic abilities. This is a poster that The Tucker Bunch made for The CLAW Thespians' production of Cinderella:

The Tucker Bunch all have parts in Cinderella. This was my first performance, but they have appeared in many other productions at CLAW Theater. I think this autographed poster may be a collector's item, don't you?

Many other plays are currently in CLAW Theater. Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, Peter Pan, Robin Hood and The Wonderful Wizard of Oz are all receiving rave reviews!

Note: On October 27, 2003, Shibui joined her beloved Tucker and other friends at Rainbow Bridge. At the time of her departure, she was rehearsing for her role in Aladdin and the Magic Lamp. The producers dedicated Aladdin in remembrance of Shibui, BooBoo Delmar, and Zachary Taylor Reeve. Although CLAW closed in 2005, productions continue to be performed in CLAW Theater.

I completed a course of study at Mr. Sass A. Frass's School of Feline Ninja Warriors! Now I can proudly display my diploma along with my ID card. I continue to meditate on the lessons I learned and I practice my skills every day.

My ID card!    My diploma

On June 29, 1998, Mr. Frass's students were informed that our dear Sensei crossed the Rainbow Bridge. His human, Mark A. Dye, gave us permission to publish his poem, Your Essence, written in memory of Sass. Until recently, Mr. Frass's school continued to carry on the traditions established by our mentor. Sadly, it is now closed.

My siblings and I are members of several other fine clubs for cats on the Internet. Please visit our club page to learn more about their activities and our participation in them.
